…For the last 18 years, US based Barbara Butler Artist-Builder Inc., has specialized in the design and construction of custom built, site-specific, artist play structures. Her philosophy is to create a great garden play structure that’s an outdoor playroom, to make it beautiful to look at and strong enough for the whole family to play on. Something that will spark the imagination, encourage children to turn off the TV and computer, and go outside and play.
‘Tree houses are wildly popular,’ says
Butler who also builds tree forts. ‘I like to combine play structure features; a play structure is more than one storey, with features for athletic activities.’ From swings, slides, ramps, secret hiding places, escape doors and climbing features, your raucous offspring will have plenty to entertain them in their outdoor haven.
Kid Pleasers
‘Certain elements are great kid pleasers and I try to always include them: good solid swings, fast slides, rock climbing, jailbars, secret escapes, fireman’s pole, rope net ladder, and a high-up place that works as a clubhouse,’ she says. ‘The younger kids are amused for hour with opening and closing the Dutch doors, sending and receiving mail through the carved mail slot.’
Butler’s great love is to design and build tree houses, however a good tree house generally requires longer periods of on-site work, ore difficult building conditions and more complex designs-all of which tends to increase costs. In 2005 the company announced the licensing of TreeHouse Company of Scotland to build and install Barbara Butler play structure designs throughout the
UK. TreeHouse Company specializes in exclusive tree house design and construction across
Europe, and is the largest tree house company in the world. They also launched their new
